Top 5 Voice-Over Trends to Watch In The Last Half Of 2025

By Jeff Williams | July 31, 2025

The voice-over industry is evolving faster than ever, driven by new technologies, shifting consumer habits, and creative opportunities. As a professional voice actor, I’ve seen firsthand how these changes shape the way we work and connect with clients. Just in my personal experience, I see studios closing while others are opening and influential professionals changing jobs on a regular basis. Things are constantly shifting in the creative world. Whether you’re a seasoned VO pro, an aspiring voice actor, or a client looking to hire the perfect voice, staying ahead of the curve is key.

Here are the top 10 voice-over trends to watch toward the end of 2025, packed with insights to help you thrive in this dynamic field.

1. AI Voice Technology Gets Smarter—but Human Voices Still Shine

Artificial intelligence continues to make waves in voice-over, with tools like text-to-speech platforms becoming more sophisticated. In 2025, AI voices are improving in naturalness, but clients still crave the emotional depth and authenticity only human voice actors can deliver. I personally see more TTS projects offered on Voice123. There are as many opinions on this as there are fish in the ocean but my opinion is that it is not good for the VO world, it is not good for beginners that get sucked in thinking it’s a great idea, and it’s not good long-term for those who are basically broke and need a fast influx of finances. It’s almost like taking advantage of them and I don’t feel good about it.

I actually asked the CEO face-to-face about V123 offering TTS projects and low low pricing when we were at a seminar together in Valkenburg, Netherlands. He, of course, defended it. But I can’t see it as a good thing regardless of how you look at it.

I do personally believe that at some point, there will be a BIG push back against AI-created art. That includes ‘paintings’, VO work, and other creative endeavors that have real value. There will always be higher, top-shelf buyers that, no matter how good AI gets, will opt for the real, human-created projects. The fine art buyer will always buy the canvas with the blobs and brush strokes on it showing the painter put brush to canvas and created something remarkable. That will at all points in the future have more value than AI-driven art.

The company that holds itself out as the ‘Real Deal’, the ‘Genuine Article’….that company almost always will have a real, genuine, authentic read from a real human voice actor. They have to. Otherwise, the REAL DEAL risks being exposed as a hypocrite.

What It Means for You: Focus on what sets you apart—unique vocal textures, emotional range, and storytelling. Specialize in niches where AI struggles, like character voices or nuanced narration. 2. Immersive Audio for Gaming and VR Takes Center Stage

With video games and virtual reality (VR) booming, immersive audio is a top priority. Voice actors are in demand for dynamic character performances, spatial audio narration, and interactive dialogue for metaverse platforms. I have to be transparent here; I am not yet active in this realm but am always looking for those opportunities!

What It Means for You: If you love character work, 2025 is your year! Network with indie game developers or audition for VR projects on platforms like Voice123. Brush up on your ability to deliver multiple takes for combat grunts or branching dialogue. One of the companies doing great work in the video game space is Brightskull. Check them out and see what they’re working on and if you can fit in there somewhere!

3. Multilingual Voice-Overs Surge in Demand

As brands go global, multilingual voice-overs are skyrocketing. From eLearning courses to international ad campaigns, clients need voices fluent in multiple languages or authentic accents to reach diverse audiences.

What It Means for You: If you’re bilingual or have a knack for accents, highlight it on your website and profiles. Not multilingual? Partner with a coach to nail regional dialects—clients will love the versatility.

4. Short-Form Video Content Drives Voice-Over Needs

TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts are dominating marketing in 2025, and brands need punchy, energetic voice-overs to grab attention in seconds. Think snappy ad reads or catchy intros. Everyone has heard and understands that AI voices have taken over these spaces. But we also understand, and have heard, that while effective, they continually make silly mistakes that take away from what is being shared. The right voice actor at the right pricing can step in and do a better job for these short-form videos. These projects (and the level of pricing) will probably be more fitting for a newer, beginning voice over talent but that’s OK.  There are projects ideal for everyone and TikTok and YouTube have always been excellent entry points for new vo actors.

What It Means for You: Practice delivering high-energy, concise reads. Create a dedicated short-form demo reel to showcase your ability to hook listeners fast. Need inspiration?

5. Podcasts and Audiobooks Continue to Boom

The podcast and audiobook markets show no signs of slowing down. Listeners crave engaging narrators for everything from true crime series to fantasy novels, making 2025 a golden year for long-form voice work. The desire to sit still and record audiobooks takes a special kind of person that has something inside them that I just do not have. However, for those that love to read, this is a perfect avenue to explore.

What It Means for You: Build stamina for long recording sessions and focus on storytelling skills. Reach out to indie podcasters or audiobook platforms like ACX to land gigs. Bonus tip: A warm, conversational tone is key!

Stay Ahead in the Voice Over Game in 2025

The voice-over industry is brimming with opportunity, from gaming and VR to short-form content and ethical AI practices. By embracing these trends, you can position yourself as a go-to voice actor for cutting-edge projects.
